Sometimes the financial aid application requires more information. Click on Messages to see if the financial aid office has a question, click on Holds to find out what information the financial aid office needs before it can finish processing your application.
If you are an "independent" student, you need to provide documentation to prove your status. This is where and when you will provide the required documents to verify you are an independent student. You are responsible for sending the information to the school you want to attend. If you have a letter from the district regarding your status, you send the letter to the school.
Quite a few schools want you to fill out a school specific form they add to your FAFSA application before they decide on any financial aid. Sometimes the school wants to see tax transcripts or some other document.
The important thing to remember is, if the school is asking for more information, your application won’t be completed until you provide the information the school is asking for.
The financial aid status link should tell you which stage your application is in, and the last link, progress, identifies how much school you have completed. Why is this important? You need to fill out the FAFSA form each year. You need to make satisfactory progress to qualify for FAFSA. At most schools, you need to complete 12 semester credit hours twice a year, at SLCC, they require 9 semester credit hours twice a year.
